Dear

Thank you for your response to my business proposal. As explained in my earlier email, I oversee a mining operation in a remote village in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where we extract valuable minerals such as palladium stones.

I have been informed by a friend that there are potential buyers of the above-mentioned products in South Africa. Therefore, I am in need of a reliable partner in South Africa who will be responsible for receiving the product and selling it to the buyers.

The idea is that I will provide you with the contacts of the buyers I have sourced. You will then call them and inform them that you have 30kg of palladium stones for sale, and inquire if they are interested in purchasing the product. We anticipate being able to make two sales per month.

This opportunity bestows rare trust upon you, and I hope you appreciate this gesture and handle it with utmost sincerity and understanding for our mutual benefits.

Please be informed that, in an offer devoid of greed or betrayal, you will be entitled to 30% commission on every sale you make.

To proceed with this project, please provide me with your WhatsApp number for further discussion.

I eagerly await your prompt response.

Thanks
HRH Kongolo Kalonji

Warnings posted on Facebook by a reputable financial crimes investigation agency from South Africa:

2021
WARNING OF NEW SCAM:
There is a new scam doing the rounds. A Congolese syndicate operating primarily on the East Rand in Bruma and Bedfordview, is luring people into investing in the purchase and resale of Coltan. This is an elaborate scam similar to the previous scams involving fake diamonds and black dollars.
Potential victims are shown the product which is then “independently” valued by a third party who is actually a member of the syndicate. The unsuspecting potential victim is then convinced to buy the parcel which will then be on-sold in another jurisdiction like Dubai. Further requests are then made for specialised packaging and transport.
Coltan is a strictly controlled commodity and is traded on a specific market. There is no way that anyone can just be approached to be a part of a Coltan deal - this is a scam.
Coltan, also known as columbium and tantalum, is a conflict mineral mined in the east of Congo and in Rwanda.
Coltan is an important component in smart phones and consumer electronics.

2022
WARNING: PALLADIUM SCAM
We previously warned the public about the scam involving coltan. The same syndicate is continuing to operate except that they are now purportedly brokering deals involving the commodity known as palladium.
Be wary of interacting with members of this syndicate as they come across extremely convincing.
The syndicate is made up of Congolese nationals together with South African citizens who add “legitimacy” to the transactions.

Scammers are spoofing Lubambe, a real copper mine in Zambia, active since 2012 and having no operations in Congo.
