STARR COUNTY, Texas (KGBT) — Officials in Starr County are warning the public about a new scam pertaining to property taxes.
According to a release, a resident received a message informing them that their property was going to be auctioned due to unpaid taxes and that they had to pay a certain amount of money before the deadline.
The Starr County Tax Assessor & Collectors Office asks the public to check with the corresponding authorities when receiving emails out of the ordinary.
The office adds that they will never ask for payment through Western Union or Money gram, checks/payments will never be made to a specific name and that the public won’t be contacted through email for outstanding balances.
