Bank officials are warning of another phone scam affecting customers in the Lake 88 listening area.
Residents are reporting calls from scammers who say they represent VISA credit cards. The callers, usually speaking with Asian accents and poor phone connections, claim the residents’ credit card has been compromised and they’re reporting an unauthorized charge of $600 on the card.
The caller then tries to extract your actual card number, password and other personal information. What makes this scam different from others, is the calls come very early in the morning – usually before 6am – in an apparent attempt to catch customers bleary-eyed and confused, and perhaps more apt to divulge personal bank information in order to stop further unauthorized charges.
The banks remind customers that they do not contact credit card customers directly over the phone. You can phone the toll-free number on the back of your card is you suspect fraud.
