Scam Alert for NRIs Looking for Stay In the USA

There seems to be a rental scam on rampant in the USA where NRIs looking for stay are prone to become victims. These scams usually involve wire transfers and the landlord will be on travel and can't meet the aspiring tenant in person. Beware of these type of classifieds!

The scamsters are attracting with classifieds on a popular website known for rental classifieds mainly for overseas students and employees looking for shared stay or to become paying guests. These ads generally come from different names every week and with different addresses with almost similar content.

They post pictures of a furnished flat with all the amenities available at around for 750$ a month and an advance of monthly rent which will be returned at the end of stay. Due to vivaah or some other vacation, the landlord says he/she could not be available during the tenant's moving in, but provide keys by mail if the latter wire transfers the rent and advance to their attorney's account. This could end up as a fraud by all means, putting a hole in tenant's pocket.

Few NRIs looking for stay in the USA in different locations found these type of ads and are now spreading this scam alert to save atleast some people.
