Have been Blackmailed, what do I do?

Unread postby Introuble » Sat Jun 23, 2012 1:33 pm

Hi,

I have got myself in trouble and hope that perhaps Icould get some advice on what to do.

I was a little drunk the other evening and was on a chat site. I started talking to a girl and we chatted on yahoo. Seemed like good fun and we exchanged fb details.
To cut a long story short, we ended up playing around on webcam. She revealed that she had recorded me m***urbating and threatened to send the video to everyone on my fb last unless I sent "her" 500 dollars. And has all the names. Sent me a link showing me the video on youtube. And said she would delete the video if I paid her. So she had my real nam and all my contacts details.

I panicked and sent 500 $ via western Union. HAven't heard a word since and certainly dont think vid was deleted.
Her FB which I believed was real was a fake I believe as the transfer was to a different country than the one I believed.
What the hell do I do now?

I have obviously removed her from my FB and yahoo.

Welcome. Is the video still on YouTube? If it is, then you can get it deleted by reporting it. Unfortunately scammers are now resorting to blackmail in this way more and more. You did the right thing by deleting them from your contacts. Ignore any further contact at all with this person. Don't even open an email from them or that references the video in its title. When you pay out once, they will try and try for more. Completely blanking them is the only way to go. Be very wary of anyone new contacting you online. Google your details to see if anything else shows up, and if it does then immediately report it to the site. I wish you luck.

Thank you Wayne. Completely freaked out, can't believe I sent money. Also need to never be on internet again after having a drink. No, video seems to be removed. I just don't know what to do if contacted again. Just ignore it completely I guess

Hello, Introuble,

ignoring any other contact attempt is the best way. In the meantime, maybe you have one email adress used by this one and maybe we can find more details about him/her. What has happend to you can happend with others and is good if any potential victim can find online details about this scammer before to send money.
And try to be very careful online, special with recent acquaintances: dont give details about your real life, your name, your job. You can never know who is - for real - on the other side...
Help yourself by helping others - report your scammer here.
Google can be your best friend;use it if you have doubts about someone met online. If someone met online only asks for money, no matter what reason, it´s 100% scam.

All of the advice above is exactly the right thing to to, introuble. Remember, we do not want any of your real life details here, nor from any other member. We want your identity protected.

This scammer might not be only running this scam, but others as well and most likely has a dozen or more on the hook now. The details you provide can help others from being scammed and can also lead to others in his gang and their details, They usually work in groups. Email addresses, social website profile name, phone number if she (he) gave that to you. I hope that you will come back and post what you have, I'm sorry that you were caught up in this scam. :(
If anyone asks you for money on the Internet they are always a scammer, 100% of the time.

Was wondering if i could some advice.

i was on Skype with a girl. i was a bit drunk and i ended up showing some stuff for about 3 minutes. she said she 18 years old from Brazil. After that it got all quite. she then sends this huge message to me saying she was under age and had taken pictures and recorded me and was going to report me to the police and send the video to all my friends if i didn't pay. i didn't see her on webcam because it was so brief or heard anything from her such a voice. Then she proceded to show me the video on skype of me playing around she recorded and demand 300 dollars by western union to the country of cameroon not Brazil where she told me she was from. I got so stressed out i ended i paying the 300 bucks. about 8 hours late i get emails saying that a western union clerk stole the money and i either have pay another 300 dollars or lodge a complaint about the clerk stealing the money. A friend then told me to stop tall contact with her which i proceded to do. when i stop all contact i got another email fromm her showing a link to youtube and where my video been loaded onto you tube. the email contained if you don't pay i'll send the link to all your friends and so on and if you report it to youtube, i'll load the up the video on other sites. i found while i was looking at the video on you tube there was another video of a guy that had been recorded off Skype, so it looks like other people have fallen victims to the people.

I'm at the point of i'm not sure what to do. Should i just stop contact with her. Advice would be great.

Youtube actually allowed porn to be posted? Gosh Wayne has posted scammers that he's gotten to strip and show their junk and even after censoring it so nothing offensive showed, they pulled it. If your stuff is really on Youtube, report it as offensive. You don't have to say it's you. They'll pull it down.

As Pinky mentioned in another topic, contact youtube and report the video as inappropriate/indecent. You will not even have to mention that it is you.

Also, DO NOT communicate with the scammer. Generally, if their scam does not work they will move on to greener pastures, although this may take a few weeks. Google yourself every day or two, just to make sure there are no other videos, and if by chance you find any ... treat them the same way as you would with youtube.
