Willing to speak out about being a victim of cyber crime?

Unread postby laurahints » Wed Aug 13, 2014 10:07 am

Hi everyone, my name is Laura and I work for Bella magazine, one of the women’s weekly publications. I just wanted to get in touch because we’re hoping to put together a report about cyber crime and in particular focus on teens/young people who've been blackmailed online by scammers. Along with information about how this happens and the figures to back it up, we'd really like to find some case studies to give a human voice and feature alongside the piece. Ideally it would be someone who has become a victim of these scams, or perhaps the mother of a teen. Of course, I appreciate this is a very difficult topic but we would deal with any potential interviewees in a sensitive manner and anything we were to print would be checked with you beforehand. So, if you are a survivor of a scam or know someone who is, please do get in touch, even if it’s just to find out a little more about what would be involved. I can be contacted via laurahinton@msn.com (freelancing at Bella, hence the personal email). Thank you.

Laura,
Please PM Wayne or Firefly with this request. They will want to be sure of your identity for the sake of victims here. There is also another request for people to speak out about their experiences up in the important information section:

Hi, sorry I probably should have said that I've been in contact with Wayne via email and he directed me to the forum. I'll post a message in the other area you suggested too. Thank you.

No need to do that. We can move this thread up there. I'd do it but I keep accidentally erasing them. (Curse of the newby's)

Thanks for letting me know that you are already in contact with Wayne.

Hi Laura. OK, I've made this one a global announcement so it'll show up on every section of the forum, though I believe the article is to be about blackmail/sextortion scams.
Click HERE for webcam blackmail/sextortion help.
Do NOT email me for sextortion help. Use the link above. If you ignore this, your message WILL be deleted.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I'm still on the look out for people to speak to. Would you mind sending me an email about what happened to you possibly? I can be reached at laurahinton@msn.com. Thank you.
