How the scam works

Unread postby firefly » Thu Jun 14, 2018 8:10 pm

The fraudsters, pretending to be located in France or Spain, are posting ads online offering expensive electronic equipment for sale. After establishing the contact with the victim, they use the fictitious courier companies reported here for delivery.

Of course, nothing will get delivered; the victim will be asked to pay additional fees to receive the parcel. If the victim refuses to pay after successive payments were done already, the fraudsters claim the last payment is VAT, and because the amount is too high, they will cancel sending the parcel with the promise to refund the lost money to the victim.

No refund will be done. Instead, the victim will be requested to contact a bank and receive a payment from another entity on behalf of the fraudsters, keep a portion of the money, and send the rest to the fraudsters. In other words, the victim which has already been scammed, is pushed to become a money mule, laundering money for the fraudsters through his bank account. Later on, the victim will be liable for the stolen money and may end up in trouble with the authorities.

The fake banks used in scam are both impersonating Standard Chartered Bank, one pretending to be in the UK and the second one in Turkey. The domain names are used only for the email address.

EXPENSIVE HI-FI COURIER SCAM - pacemaxlogistics.com

Unread postby foefoefoe » Tue Aug 20, 2019 5:23 pm

Ok so, scammers post their ads on the following site: http: // hifistereo.org/

Examples? http: // hifistereo.org/ads/20785/ or http :// hifistereo.org/ads/18074/

The prices are encouraging. Aftare the payment is made they "send" the item you paid for via their fake courier company based in Spain, Tenerife (scammer from the ad i fell into is based there as well) with the following website: http: // pacemaxlogistics.com/en/index.html It even shows the tracking of your parcel. The bottom line is you will obviously never ever receive your package. In my case I was lucky enough to pay via paypal (paying for goods/services) so just today received a refund. Funny fact in the resolution centre the scammer/seller provided paypal with the following tracking number https: // http://www. dhl.co.uk/en/express/tracking.html?AWB=5496273495&brand=DHL (item was sent from China to Nigeria)

Ok now, I did contact action fraud police but their courier website is still going strong, how to close it?

Unfortunately their ads are still easy to reach via https:// www. hifishark.com/ which is the main search engline for bargains when it comes to expendive audio. Did contact shark's admin and raised the issue but apparently he doesn't want to do anything about it.

The location used by that "courier" is also reported above, while being used with another fake website.

Try, please, to forward to me the correspondence you had with the "seller" and with the courier. You can find my email address below.

Based on what we receive from you, we will see what can be done for that fake courier to be reported for fraudulent activities online.
