Opnions please-unusual scam

Unread postby missus1105 » Wed Feb 08, 2017 4:10 pm

Hello there. I am new to this board but I am looking for some help and advice. My mother has recently married a 36 year old Romanian man (she is 61). They met online through a virtual game last year, met once when she went over and then he came over here for a week and they got married around Sept time. He is still over in Romania. My worries -

1. He has 24 friends on facebook all of whom have pictures from this game.
2. He got her to send him £4000 last summer for dental work.
3. He was supposed to move here at Christmas, then it was the start of January, then she never heard from him for 3 weeks and all of a sudden (at pay day) he started chatting to her again and she has been over to the post office again to send him money (she goes to the post office quite often to send him money).
4. He says his family are in Italy, she hasn't ever met any of them despite being in Romania for a week.
5. His age.

I just think it all sounds rather dodgy and he has told her that he has 2 houses, why does he need the money then? My mother is lonely (doesn't take much to do with her 4 children, her doing), this is her 4th marriage so she is looking for love (3rd was to an American). I have never heard of people actually getting married with any of these romance scams so not sure what to think. Gut feeling is telling me he is a complete scam.

Advice welcome please!!

It sounds very much like a "Pro-dater" romance scam. To Romanian romance scammers, a marriage certificate is just a free ticket to the victim's bank account, and leverage to get it all. Every last dime.

Read this topic, and take note of the description of pro-daters at the bottom of the post: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=24589&sid=95cdcc0b32573a39e2cc4798ee858934#p58980

LIES + asking for money all the time = SCAM.
If anyone asks you for money on the Internet they are always a scammer, 100% of the time.

Thank you for the link. Yes he had to have a translator with him when she travelled over there. He doesn't speak a word of English so she had to hire one when they got married as well. She just won't see sense it's very frustrating! I take it there's nothing I can do except wait for him to leave her and pick up the pieces? I have photos of him and his name etc but I just don't think there's anything else I can do, she won't listen to anyone.

I doubt he'll ever drop her as long as she keeps sending him money. If the marriage occurred in Romania I would question if it was a legal ceremony or just a trumped up one by the scammer gang.

Any information you add here would be helpful.

Phone numbers, Photos, E-mail addresses, Facebook page links may help us research him and find other cases.

Maybe these will help you to help her see reason and break from him.

No, he came to xxx to marry her. He was here for a week and went back home and hasn't been back since. Well that's my worry, that he will spend most of his time over there and she will just be worrying and sending him money so she doesn't 'lose' him. His name is Bogdan Dumitri. I have attached a couple of photos. I have no number or e-mail for him but I have his facebook page and they play this game called second life which I'm assuming is where they met. His name on facebook is Ottar Dark. I don't know if these photos have went through properly, I have a few more but will see if these have loaded ok first.

Try the "Upload Attachment" button below the white posting box. The images need to be saved on your pc to do this.
