Just sussed a similar scam in time not to get sucked in. Match member BT01 supposedly working in security in Damascus, messaged each other for about 4 weeks then yesterday asked for £5k to a courier to get his stuff home to UK - it was the mention of gold bars that gave this one away!

Here is a screen grab of his profile and photo. Photo does not come up anywhere on googleimages. Claims to live in UK over ten years but that he is American and works for security services /US NSA. Gave home address as 31 Melbury road West Kensington London w14 8ab which is a £20m grade 1 listed property. His first mistake.

Whoever this photo is of looks such a nice guy. What a shame!

If is possible, can you add, please, the elements you have about that courier company? The email addresses they use, phone number and other contact details? If they asked for money, can you post the name of the receiver and the location? Those elements may be reused with another victim and with some luck that potential victim can find the details posted online before sending any money.

The bank details for Coast To Coast Of Md LLC I was given were as follows:

I haven't any numbers or emails from them as I put a stop to it before it got that far. I have since also received a scan of his supposed passport which I will attach here. It looks like a genuine British passport so can only conclude stolen. He told me originally he was born in Palermo Italy and brought up in the US so why would it say born in Oxford?? Nor would it be a GBR passport if he was given citizenship as I think that's only if you are born here. No, this is stolen.

I have saved it with the file name it came with, don't know if this gives any clues.

Still feeling a bit gutted tbh. But I'll be fine.
